Frequently Asked Questions

  • How Do I Make an Appointment?

You can schedule appointments by calling our office or online through the Healow scheduler (see our Appointments page). If you plan to call for a same-day sick visit, try to call as early as possible so that we can give you the most flexibility with scheduling. If you are unable to make it to a well-visit appointment, please notify us at least 24 hours in advance. If you are unable to make it to a sick-visit appointment, please notify us 1 hour in advance. This will provide the opportunity for another patient in need of care.

Please remember to bring your (or your child's) insurance card at every visit.

  • How Do I Reach the Doctor After Office Hours?

If you have a life-threatening emergency, call 911. For other concerns, you can reach our providers by contacting the answering service at (410) 535-8202.

  • Which Insurance Companies Do You Accept?

We accept most insurances, but it is a good idea to call and check with our front desk to be sure we take yours!

We currently accept the following insurances:

    Aetna (employer and state)

    Amerigroup

Blue Cross Blue Shield (including federal)

    Carefirst Community

    Cigna PPO

    Jai Medical

    Maryland Physicians Care

    MedStar Family Choice MCO (state)

    NCAS

    Optima Health

    Priority Partners

    Tricare (Humana Military)

United Health Care (MCO, PPO, UHIS)

Please call your insurance company if you are unsure about which type of insurance you have. We do not accept Kaiser Insurance.

  • What is your vaccine policy?

We firmly believe in the effectiveness of vaccines for preventing serious and potentially deadly illness. Vaccines save lives. Vaccinating children may be the single most important thing you as a parent can do to protect your child's health.

We require that all children receive the set of vaccinations required for school entry in Maryland Public Schools, and highly recommend other vaccinations that are not required for school.

We believe that all children and adults should receive the recommended vaccines according to the schedule published by the Centers for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics. However, we will work with parents on a case-by-case basis to develop an alternative vaccination schedule, within reason, should this be what you prefer for your children.

Bottom line: We'll work with you on an alternative schedule (within reason) but your child should receive all of the school-required vaccinations.

You can find excellent information on vaccine safety here:

American Academy of Pediatrics - Dedicated to the health of all children. This website provides reliable and authoritative advice on a variety of child health issues, including immunizations.

VaccinateYourFamily.org - Learn why immunizing your child on time, every time is the right choice.

Centers for Disease Control - Provides vaccine schedules and catch up schedules.

  • Do You Have A Separate Sick and Well Patient Waiting Area?

Yes! Both of our pediatric offices have separate sick and well patient waiting areas. We try our best to minimize the spread of infection while you are in our office. If you would prefer to wait in your car,  we can call you when it's your turn to be brought back to an exam room.

  • What Hospital Affiliations Do Your Providers Have?

All our doctors have admitting privileges at Calvert Health Medical Center. Dr. Bhargesh Mehta also has privileges at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

  • Can My Child Be Seen in Both Offices?

    Yes!

  • What Is the Best Way To Request My Medication Refills?

Please call your pharmacy to send over a medication refill request to our office electronically. We can easily refill meds electronically, as long as you are up to date on your appointments. If your pharmacy cannot send an electronic refill request, give our office a call.

If the medication you are requesting is a controlled drug substance (such as most ADHD medications and some pain medications), you will need to call our office to request a refill.

If you/your child is on chronic medications (like those for Asthma, ADHD, birth control, blood pressure, diabetes) you will need a follow up appointment (in office or televisit) every 3 months.

Please give your provider 2-3 days (for pediatrics) or 5-7 days (for adult patients) to refill your prescriptions! Please do not call for an "emergent" refill when you/your child is on their very last pill, instead, call us when your child is on their last week (7-10 days) of medication.

  • How Do I Get A Referral?

We are happy to provide you with referrals to sub-specialist providers. Please notify us at least 72 hours in advance of any appointment requiring a referral. Referrals will not be done after hours or on weekends. Please keep in mind that without a referral, your subspecialist visit may be denied by your insurance company, therefore making you responsible for any and all charges incurred at the sub-specialist office.

  • Do you offer Televisits?

Yes! Televisits are visits during which you are seen via videocalling/videochatting. We began offering televisits during the COVID-19 pandemic and plan to continue them for as long as insurance companies will allow.

Most follow-up visits (such as medication or lab reviews) can be done through a televisit. We cannot perform well child or annual physicials over televisit. We also prefer to see sick children (like those with a possible ear infection, fever, or sore throat) in-office so that we can fully examine them and perform appropriate rapid testing.

In order to schedule a televisit, you must have a cell phone with video capabilities. We use Doximity for our televisits, so you do not need to download any special software or apps. You will receive a phone call and a text message with a link to start your televisit.
